About The Author

Princesses of Heaven: The Flowers is a Catholic book written and illustrated by Fabiola Garza. If the pictures remind you of Disney princesses, it is no coincidence. Fabiola works for Disney as a character artist. While I never met Fabiola in person, you get a great portrait of her in the book. As she says on the first page, "Fabiola is also a Princess of Heaven in training. Though her crown is often crooked, she hope's God's grace will help her soul shine. She has a great affinity for unicorns, France, and dresses with puffed sleeves."

Who Are The Princesses?

In Princesses of Heaven, the author writes about St. Joan of Arc, St. Bakhita, St. Kateri, St. Narcisa, St. Lucy, and St. Therese. The author shares a short story that is age-appropriate about each Saint. While St. Therese and St. Joan of Arc tend to be more well-known, I can appreciate learning about new Saints. Since each Saint has a unique charism and a different background, I bet any young girl would be able to identify with at least one of these Saints.

The last page, pictured below, asks the question "Princess, what is your path to Heaven?", acknowledging that the reader is a princess (not in the secular sense) because any daugher of The King is a Princess of Heaven.

Who Is This Book For?

According to many book descriptions, this book is geared towards girls ages 3 to 8. However, being a former Catholic elementary school teacher, I would also suggest up to 10 depending on the child.

How To Use This Book

This book would be a great read a-loud for the younger children ages 3 to 5, while older children, 6 and up would read it independently. This would be a great addition to your child's library, a church library, a classroom, or your homeschooling curriculum. Students can practice recalling details, writing a summary, write about their favorite Saint and why, and/or make and decorate their own crowns, after all, they are princesses too!
